In an age where celebrities with perfect skin are front and centre on every magazine cover, it can often be frustrating to notice your own skin beginning to show signs of age. The appearance of wrinkles and fine lines can make you realise that our skin doesn’t stay looking youthful forever and that aging is something that can’t be stopped.

However, it can be slowed down.

There are cosmetic treatments that you can have to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles – leaving your skin looking and feeling a lot more youthful. The main one for this is Botox. This treatment consists of anti-wrinkle injections that contain botulinum toxin, and is considered as being the best anti-aging solution available.

Not clued up on all things Botox? Here are 4 important facts!

Botox is Used to Treat a Number of Different Conditions

Whilst Botox is primarily used by individuals looking to improve the appearance of their skin and reduce the amount of wrinkles, it’s also an approved method for treating a number of different medical conditions. It was actually originally produced as a treatment for neurological disorders.

Here are some of the medical conditions that Botox is used to for:

  • Eyelid muscle spasms
  • Repeat migraines
  • Bladder problems – overactive
  • Joint issues
  • Chronic neck and back pain

It Isn’t as Painful as You May Think

A lot of people claim that the one thing that puts them off getting Botox, is the idea that it’s going to be very painful. Although any injection is going to be uncomfortable, it’s not actually as painful as people may think. A lot of people compare Botox to experiencing a mosquito bite – irritating but not extreme pain. Of course, it all depends on everyone’s individual pain thresholds.

It’s Entirely Safe

Another reason for people hesitating over going through with Botox treatment is that they have been told that it’s dangerous or unsafe. This isn’t true. It actually received FDA approval back in 1999 when used to treat medical conditions (like we discussed earlier). It was introduced as a form of cosmetic treatment in 2002, and millions of people have had Botox since then – safely and successfully. As long as you use someone experienced and qualified, you’ll be in completely safe hands.

You’ll Still Have Facial Expressions

Botox that is done correctly should not cause you to lose any facial expressions or cause them to become ‘fixed’.  It relaxes the facial muscles when it’s injected but doesn’t affect the other muscles that are used to express emotions. You’ll still have a wide range of expressions – so don’t worry!
